Martina Jordan & Hannaleena Markkanen

Our  Story

Martina Jordan and Hannaleena Markkanen are both experienced performers and educators. And they first met and connected at Body Rhtyhm Hamburg Festival 2015 and continued their thought sharing over the years.

In 2019 they started collaborating more and performed in Athens at mini IBMF (International Body Music Festival). With their collaborational piece: Ach i Xenitia.

In October 2023 they had a chance to spend a whole month in KulttuuriKauppila residency. Their objective was to work with Finnish and Swedish folk music and create a real connection to the nature around them to draw inspiration from it.

Not aiming for it they realised they had created a work in progress piece, they named: Klara Vatten - Clear waters. The piece combines somatic work, dance improvisation, singing and body music with video projections. The process of the work was strongly connected with the river Ii, which ran in their backyard at the residency. They were inspired by the strong currents and calm sections of the river. The water never stopped, but it had different personalities, or different reactions in different sections of the river., like life. That influenced the work and the exploration of the movement and sounds for it. Musically they draw from the Finnish and Swedish music heritage and sang on both languages during the work in progress performance.

Klara vatten is a project that continues still. They are set to work on the material during the Month of October and showcase some of the material at the IBMF Athens Festival in November 2024.
